A timeline of my history with U.S. politics: how it lead to my support of Andrew Yang & how he managed to have a strong impact on my life.

My first exposure to American politics was when I was only 10 years old. It was the year 2004: four years after my parents split and three years after the monumental tragedy that was 9/11. To get closer to my father, I echoed his support of former President George W. Bush. My father is very much a product of the era of the late Ronald Reagan and to most people of the baby boomer generation, Reagan was seen as a political Messiah. I, of course, being only 10 years old knew next to nothing about politics. I didn’t even watch…

Lindsey Boylan is running to be Manhattan’s next borough president and here’s why that’s a great thing.

Former NY-10 Congressional Candidate Lindsey Boylan running for Manhattan Borough President.

Back in June of 2020 when the New York Primary elections took place, several battles were being fought in the name of progress. Many had hoped, in these dark and uncertain times, that change was going to hit New York like a 7th inning home run at a Met’s game. While we may have had victories like Jamal Bowmann unseating Elliot Engel in NY-16 or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fending off Michelle Caruso-Cabrera in NY-14, we experienced an unfortunate loss when progressive NY-10 hopeful Lindsey Boylan failed to unseat the nearly 30-year incumbent, Jerrold Nadler, despite a strong campaign run. …

Why Gigi Li should represent Manhattan council District 1.

City Council Candidate Gigi Li

A Hong Kong immigrant and the daughter of small business owners, Gigi Li has made plenty of strides with (in?)New York City: Graduating from Smith College with a B.A. degree, working as a counselor/advocate for children and families impacted by domestic violence, and later obtaining a Master’s of Science in Social work with a focus on policy from Columbia’s School of Social Work. (Run-on sentence) She also has over a decade of experience in advocating for programs and services for children and families. Gigi was also a member of Community Board…

What Lindsey Boylan plans on doing in regards to climate justice and livability and why it matters

When I last wrote about Lindsey Boylan in my piece titled “Made For Manhattan: The Case for Lindsey Boylan,” I talked about her urban planning experience, her plans for small businesses, and why she would be an outstanding Borough President in Manhattan. Here, I want to discuss her plans to fight for climate justice and a more livable Manhattan. New York City has had a tumultuous history regarding environmental, sanitation, and livability issues. Lindsey Boylan seeks to change that by committing to green infrastructure and making renewable energy a priority. …

Does this sequel the 2018 smash-hit live up to it’s potential?

Back in November of 2017, I attended an 11am screening of Justice League at my local theater. I remember sitting through the trailers: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, JUMANJI: Welcome To The Jungle, Ready Player One, Tomb Raider, The list goes on. One film sort of stuck out to me: A Quiet Place.

I was initially underwhelmed by the film’s trailer and, despite its interesting concept, overall dismissive of the film. I initially thought “oh cool, another 90-minute jump scare fest”. Then, during COVID Lockdown last year, I actually saw the film. Yes, it had jump scares but…

Does Chris Rock bring new blood to the Saw franchise?

In the mid to late 2000s, the Saw franchise has dominated Halloween. The TV Spots would always say “If it’s Halloween, it must be Saw”. The films would always have an average production budget of $10 million and literally make ten times that in a few weeks. This franchise was Lionsgate’s biggest cash cow from 2004 — 2010: tiny budget, massive profit.

I personally am not the biggest fan of the franchise: I like the concept but, as films went on, the premise became more of an afterthought. Even though (due to only having a $1.2 million budget) the first…

Angelina Jolie makes a strong case for the need for more grounded action thrillers.

If the name Taylor Sheridan rings a bell, it’s because he is the same guy who wrote some of the most acclaimed thrillers of the 2010s: “Sicario” from 2015, the 2016 Academy Award-nominated “Hell or High Water”, and his 2017 directorial debut, “Wind River”. With his latest release, “Those Who Wish Me Dead”, he returns to the director's chair. Based on the novel by Bestselling author Michael Koryta, the film stars Angelina Jolie (Gia, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider), Jon Bernthal (The Accountant, Netflix’s The Punisher), and Nicolas Hoult (Max Max: Fury Road, X-Men: First Class).

Angelina Jolie plays Hannah, a…

Why Eliza Orlins should be Manhattan’s next District Attorney.

In the year 2004, the iconic CBS show, “Survivor”, aired its 9th season. One woman would go on to compete and finish in 4th place. This same woman would later go on to become a public defender in New York City, and after gaining a national following since her appearances on “Survivor,” would then announce her run for Manhattan’s district attorney in the upcoming 2021 primary. Her name is Eliza Orlins.

It is no secret that New York City has become home to dirty politics: Manhattan’s current district attorney, Cy Vance…

Is the latest Mortal Kombat film a Flawless Victory or a pre-emptive Fatality?

Back in January and February of 2021 respectively, I wrote about how promising “Mortal Kombat” (2021) looked while also writing about how Mortal Kombat played a major role in my childhood; growing up, I would always play “Mortal Kombat: Trilogy” with my cousins on the Nintendo 64. It’s been nearly 25 years since Mortal Kombat was last seen on the big screen, the last film being the much maligned “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation”. …

Not quite a flawless victory but, well done.

After two mid-90’s live-action iterations and a 2 season web series, Mortal Kombat has had an interesting journey in terms of visual media. The web series, “Mortal Kombat: Legacy”, was actually pretty decent. I only watched the first season so, I currently don’t have an opinion on the second but, I found season one to be competently made, and while I found Raiden’s episode to be the weakest, The rest of the season was good.

In January of 2020, Warner Bros animation announced “Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge” which would be the first animated film as well as the first…
