BREAKING: Tom Holland confirmed for the lead role in Andrew Yang movie
Tom Holland has officially been cast as the lead in “Yang” a film about Andrew Yang’s 2021 Mayoral run
Scheduled to film in 2022, A film based on Andrew Yang’s Mayoral Run may have found its lead. Sources say that Spider-Man: Homecoming and Chaos Walking star, Tom Holland, is set to play the lead in the film titled Yang. Holland is set to play NY college student, Nick Carter, a freshman who gets politically active in the NY Mayors race after seeing Andrew Yang speak. The film is set to start filming in June of 2022 and is currently slated for an early 2023 release. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
After a near-death experience from his winter break, a college Freshman (Tom Holland) returns from Ohio to Manhattan to continue his study on journalism. He soon learns of his purpose after attending a rally for Andrew Yang and begins campaigning for him. As time progresses, Nick becomes more and more invested in Yang and New York politics as a whole, thus possibly shaping his future, Yang’s future, and New York’s future as a whole.
Holland recently expressed excitement for the project calling it an “enriching and enlightening opportunity” he continues, “I learned about Andrew [Yang] after receiving news about the role. He is an outstanding person and his ideas have resonated with me and hopefully, they will resonate with the audience as well.”
Director Nikki Caro says that “Tom is the perfect choice for the audience character that is Nick. He will bring an abundant amount of humanity to the role.” Caro also expressed her enthusiasm for filming with IMAX Cameras saying “I cannot wait to capture the energy and excitement of the Yang Gang in certain key moments. It is truly a beauty to behold and I really want to make the audience feel like they are there in the moment and right in the crowd.”
Holland joins a star-studded cast which includes: Randall Park (ABC’s Fresh Off The Boat) as Andrew Yang, Lucy Liu (CBS’ Elementary) as Evelyn Yang, Carl Wethers (Disney+’s The Mandolorian) as Eric Adams, Fred Armisen (Portlandia) as Scott Stringer, Jada Pinkett-Smith (Girls Trip) as Maya Wiley, Tessa Thompson (Marvel’s Thor Ragnorok) as Dianne Morales, Akwafina (Raya & The Last Dragon) as Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, Jane Levy (Don’t Breathe) as Lindsey Boylan, Kevin James (King of Queens) as Mayor Bill DeBlasio, & Joe Rogan as himself.
The film, which is simply titled Yang, is directed by Mulan director Nikki Caro and is slated for a theatrical release date of January 13th, 2023.
