Film Review: “A Quiet Place Part II” (2021)

Does this sequel the 2018 smash-hit live up to it’s potential?

Back in November of 2017, I attended an 11am screening of Justice League at my local theater. I remember sitting through the trailers: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, JUMANJI: Welcome To The Jungle, Ready Player One, Tomb Raider, The list goes on. One film sort of stuck out to me: A Quiet Place.

I was initially underwhelmed by the film’s trailer and, despite its interesting concept, overall dismissive of the film. I initially thought “oh cool, another 90-minute jump scare fest”. Then, during COVID Lockdown last year, I actually saw the film. Yes, it had jump scares but, they weren’t overly reliant on them plus, the film took advantage of its concept and had some surprising emotional depth. I was an absolute fool for initially dismissing the film. Now, John Krasinski returns to the directors chair for a Quiet Place Part II.

The film picks up right where its 2018 predecessor left off, with the Abbott family having to leave what is left of their home in order to survive. Along the way, they run into a mysterious man named Emmett (Cillian Murphy) who lives a secluded life following the arrival of the film’s creatures. As the film goes on, they soon discover that not everyone who survives is worth saving.
