Film Review: “Death on the Nile” (2022)
With more than enough champagne to fill the Nile!
As a kid, I dabbled into video games more than board games but, I had a few favorites in the latter category. While “Battleship”, “Sorry!”, and “Vampire Hunter” were a couple that stuck out, one of my all-time favorites was “Clue”. It was always fun trying to accuse your friends of murder while touring the victim’s lofty estate. As for how this translates to film, I do in fact love a good whodunnit murder mystery. I have a blast trying to piece together the events in the first act and getting to know the suspects all while guessing who did it. I often point blame my fondness for this particular kind of subgenre for often guessing certain twist endings within the first 20 minutes of certain films (*cough* “Spiral”*cough*). A good whodunnit often keeps you guessing from person to person (i.e. “Knives Out”, “Scream”) while a bad one does not (i.e. “Spiral”, the last twenty minutes of “Scream ’22”).
While I have yet to read any of Agatha Christie’s novels, I am very familiar with her iconic novel, “Murder on the Orient Express”. I remember the 1974 film starring Albert Finney as Detective Hercule Poirot in all its double VHS glory as well as the best forgotten 2001 made-for-TV film starring Alfred Molina as Poirot. As for the 2017 film, I actually enjoyed it. Academy Award…
