Film Review: “Shang Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings” (2021)

Another historic win for the MCU.

Ever since the year 2000, I have always been a Marvel kid. While I loved Batman and other characters in the DC Universe, I was more so an X-Men fan. I spent weekends at my cousin’s house watching the 1992 cartoon, I fell in love with X-Men: Evolution when I was in first and second grade, and I saw every X-Men movie in theaters. My love for X-Men would eventually extend to Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, and the rest of Marvel’s characters growing up.

In 2008, The Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off with the monumentally successful Iron Man and has since continued with no signs of slowing down. With 25 films and counting in the MCU, Marvel has used its cast of characters to tackle various themes and, recently with films like 2019’s Captain Marvel & 2018’s Black Panther, has even added some social commentary into the mix. Now, in 2021, comes Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Does it succeed as part of the MCU? Let’s find out!
