Film Review: “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021)

A spectacular love letter to spider-fans

For nearly 60 years, Spider-Man has remained a household name in the world of Marvel superheroes. From his comic book debut in “Amazing Fantasy #15” all the way back in 1962 to subsequent animated shows in the 60s and 90s to his titanic debut on the big screen in 2002, Spider-Man has remained an icon for generations as well as the face of Marvel. Being a part of the big 3 in making comic book movies a box office juggernaut in the early 2000s (The other two being 1998’s “Blade” and 2000’s “X-Men”), Spider-Man has also become a cash cow for Sony. So much so, that they’ve often had public tug-o-wars with Disney as far as the web slinger’s inclusion in the MCU goes. It wasn’t until 2016 in “Captain America: Civil War” that Spider-Man was finally able to swing into the MCU before kicking his solo 2017 debut with “Spider-Man: Homecoming”.

I’ve seen just about every Spider-Man film in theaters ever since the 2002 film. I also have found it kind of difficult to really so who the best Spider-Man is. During his run from 2002–2007, Toby Maguire brought in-depth and maturity to both Spider-Man and Peter Parker. Maguire’s portrayal was authentically human and brought nuance to the character.
