Film Review: “The 355” (2022)
Hell hath no fury like the month of January.
Happy New Year, everyone! I hope we are doing well, staying safe, and remaining healthy! While I, like many of you, am ready to kick off 2022 with a sense of optimism despite Omicron wanting to shit all over our parade, Hollywood has their own way of starting off the year. How? the one person reading this might ask. Well, It’s actually quite simple: at the start of every year, studios often like to take whatever films they have little to no faith in (in terms of either box office or quality) slap them onto the months of either January, February, or (as is the case with summer) August.
These months are seen as dumping grounds: periods of releases where the shittiest of movies are cast out to make whatever money they can. Aside from maybe a few Oscar nominations that expand to wider releases in order to capitalize on Awards Season momentum, January is notorious for its bad film selection. Members of the dumping ground hall of fame include Sony’s “The Grudge” remake from 2020, Paramount’s “The Devil Inside” from 2012, and the infamously horrific “Movie 43” from 2013.
