In 2018, during the early days of Andrew Yang’s presidential campaign, a strong leader joined the historical movement to combat poverty and spread awareness about the fourth industrial revolution. While Yang may not have secured the presidential nomination, he created a powerful ripple effect on our political system. Out of the Yang campaign grew a movement, and a prominent figure in that movement is Reverend Wendy Hamilton. Playing a significant role early on, Reverend Wendy became a strong voice for Yang’s progressive universal basic income (“UBI”) platform and his message of putting humanity first. In December 2020, Reverend Wendy officially announced her run for U.S. Congress in her home district of Washington D.C.

Reverend Wendy is running against a 30-year Democratic incumbent, Eleanor Holmes Norton. While Reverend Wendy has great respect for Norton and her legacy, Reverend Wendy believes forward progress in D.C. has stagnated as many people — including elected officials — became accustomed to the status quo.

Residents of D.C. are disillusioned. Voter turnout dropped significantly over the past three decades. In the 2018 midterm election, only 89,000 voters out of 493,000 registered…
