Ten films that truly made this year special

While 2021 became a slow crawl at the box office due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this remained a strong year for streaming outlets despite so. Every major release from Warner Bros such as “Dune”, “Godzilla Vs. Kong”, & “Mortal Kombat” premiered in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously while major Disney releases such as Marvel’s “Black Widow”, “Cruella”, and “Jungle Cruise” did a similar model with Disney +’s “Premier Access” as if Lord Mickey doesn’t make enough money. Paramount and Netflix hashed out a similar model with their films being released in theaters shortly before hitting their respective streaming platforms. Still, 2021 felt like a step in the direction of pre-Covid normalcy with many sequels, remakes, and much to the chagrin of Ridley Scott, Superhero films flooding cinemas everywhere.

Between the cinema and at home, the options remain endless and thanks to various release models (“You’re Welcome!’ -Carona), The reach for an audience has become nearly infinite. Before we kick off my 10 favorite films of the year, let’s gloss over some Honorable Mentions:

I. “Nightmare Alley” — A visually stunning remake with excellent performances by Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett
